Why Stories Matter

Stories are often treated as the final layer; the words added once everything else has been decided. I see them differently.

Stories help us understand who we are, what we stand for, and why any of it matters. They shape perception, influence decisions, build trust, and create connection. Whether I’m working with an individual, a community, a charity, or a brand, my role is to uncover the story beneath the surface and bring it into focus.

Sometimes that means amplifying lived experience with care and integrity. Sometimes it means helping an organisation articulate its purpose more clearly. Sometimes it means transforming complex ideas into messages people can understand, remember, and act upon.

Good storytelling doesn’t simply tell people something. It helps them feel it.

That belief informs everything I create, from articles and campaigns to brand narratives, speeches, and thought leadership. Because when people connect with a story, they are far more likely to connect with the message behind it.

What About Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

AI can generate words, but it cannot carry lived experience, empathy, or personal truth. I don’t see technology as something to fear or avoid. I embrace it as a tool. When used thoughtfully, AI can support structure, clarity, and efficiency. But the heartbeat of my work remains human. Every story I craft begins with conversation, listening, and understanding. These are things no algorithm can replicate. At the same time, I believe in using AI ethically and transparently. There is a growing tendency to present AI-generated work as fully original craft, often at the expense of honesty, skill, and integrity. I do not subscribe to that approach.

My work is built on years of writing, practice, and lived experience. Long before AI tools existed, I was writing, refining my voice, and shaping narratives — from early competition wins to creating and editing publications, to developing storytelling as both craft and advocacy. That foundation matters. It informs not just what I write, but how and why I write it. AI does not replace that. It supports it. I use AI with intention, never as a substitute for thought, voice, or originality. It is a collaborator in process, not the author of the work. Every piece I create is shaped, refined, and owned by me, grounded in human insight and creative integrity.
